| Amukela (‘welcome’ in the local Shangane) is located deep in the African bush, in the 40.000 hectare Balule private nature reserve. Balule is part of the Greater Kruger Park and home to the Big 5 and | |||
| many other animals. Birdwatching is rewarding with at least 250 species recorded in this area. |  |

| The Balule nature reserve has joined the Greater Kruger Park, allowing the animals to roam freely between the Kruger national park | |||
| and the private reserves on it's western boundary. | |||
| Balule has become one of the jewels in the Greater Kruger Park crown. Lion, cheetah, leopard and many other rarer species | |||
| are now flourishing and large numbers of elephant, buffalo and even rhino move freely between Balule and the eastern border | |||
| of the Kruger Park. The main entrance gate of Balule is situated just 16 km. north of Hoedspruit. | |||
| In 2003 Miriam and Corné purchased some land in Balule, and in 2004 they started building their own game-lodge. | |||
