Welcome at Amukela Game Lodge, located in the Greater Kruger Park.

 Amukela on Facebook.   Diary.   Newletters.
Amukela (‘welcome’ in the local Shangane) is located deep in the South African bush, in the 40.000 hectare Balule private nature reserve. Balule is part of the Greater Kruger Park and home to the Big 5 and
many other animals. Birdwatching is rewarding with at least 250 species recorded in this area.

The Balule nature reserve has joined the Greater Kruger Park, allowing the animals to roam freely between the Kruger national park
and the private reserves on it's western boundary.
Balule has become one of the jewels in the Greater Kruger Park crown. Lion, cheetah, leopard and many other rarer species
are now flourishing and large numbers of elephant, buffalo and even rhino move freely between Balule and the eastern border
of the Kruger Park. The main entrance gate of Balule is situated just 16 km. north of Hoedspruit.

In 2003 Miriam and Corné purchased some land in Balule, and in 2004 they started building their own game-lodge.
Offering affordable accommodation in Big-5 with a maximum of only 8 guests makes this private game lodge exclusive and truly unique.

Amukela is ideal located to explore the diverse attractions in this region and for a self drive or organized safari in Kruger park.
We can advise you about the best routes and nicest things to visit in the region. A bush walk and/or game drive can be booked, both conducted with a qualified guide.
Special offers are available if you stay longer then 5 nights!

You can relax on our terrace, covered in shade by 2 large indigenous trees. Or cool down in the swimming pool. Both have a view on the small waterhole which is lit by a spotlight at night.
The southern hemisphere is perfect for star gazing and if you like astronomy you are are the right place at Amukela!
From the Mercury star deck  you can see the Milky way in all of its glamour. From here you also look over the larger waterhole.

Dinner is served in our boma (depending on weather conditions) under the breathtaking starlit sky.
Enjoy typical African meals such as braai, bobotie and potjiekos. In the evening you can sit at the campfire listening to the voices of Africa.
Unwind at this unique lodge and feel at home in our personal atmosphere.

The Dutch owners Miriam en Corné van Dongen are your hosts on this beautiful location. On the page "About us" more information about the owners and the history of the lodge.
